"what's that wire?"
« on: January 15, 2014, 01:40:44 PM »
looks like a gray wire and a black wire coming down to the plastic connector. it looks like the wires go up to the gauge cluster?
any guesses?

also I've been doing some wiring behind the dash and it seems I've knocked out the blue high beam signal light, anybody know what wire that is? please don't just copy and paste the wiring diagram as a reply. I have a manual and I can't see it in there and can hardly read those in the first place.  thank you
steven

can you get a better picture of the connector. that would help.

the high beam indicator is just a bulb socket that twists into the back of the instrument cluster. it get power from the printed circuit that runs along the back. you can see it in the second pic (the green/blue race track looking stuff)

Without knowing where it is coming from there is no guessing other than every gray wiring in the diagrams.
The high beam light should be easy to find from the cluster, it is part of the cluster plug.  If you knocked it loose, you probably broke it.

I just swapped all my cluster lights for bright white LEDs so I probably broke it doing that

looks like a power radio feed but, it would have a yellow wire to it. It almost looks like there are 3 "places to plug in" . You have the two prong female part and then to the left a place for something.

Do you have the original radio? does it work?

no when I bought the truck it already had the dash hacked up and an aftermarket CD player in it.
that's a good thought, it's not a big deal I'm just extremely curious. would a radio feed wire be coming down from the top of the gauge cluster?

Yes, well it could be the speaker feed, if you had dash speakers. Gray inside the cab is usually power, along with orange. Black is ground. I just don't recognize that connector.

Gray is power in the cab? When I put my radio in the previous owner hacked away the connectors and I found the gray running to the radio area was the illumination wire for the stock radio. So when I would turn my headlights on it would pop the fuse for the radio or the dashlights
