**1990 burb harness going engine "name that wire"*****
« on: February 18, 2014, 09:22:16 AM »
I have a single gray wire that goes to the engine wire harness at the firewall connector. I cant locate it on our schematics here. Where does it go?

350 tbi to 454 tbi swap
« Reply #1 on: February 18, 2014, 12:11:56 PM »
The existing wiring harness and cab is from a 1990 350 tbi I have swaped to a 1987 454 tbi. where the 454 engine wiring harness connects to the bulhead on the firewall is different from the 1990 to the 1987. Different shape and the terminals are different.

I have donor harness parts so my plan is to take a "pigtail" section from the 350 tbi and solder it to the 454 wiring harness. I have matches for all the wires except the following. Please let me know if you know where these wires go as I have researched the schematics on the site with no success. These are the wires that I don't know what they go to.

                          1990                                                                          1987

Gray wire                                                                  small purple wire (not the big one that goes to the starter)
                                                                                                          tan/ white stripe
                                                                                                          tan/ black stripe
                                                                                                          brown/white stripe

The bulkhead connectors changed in 1989  BUT the 1987 5.7L TBI setup can be used to power the 454, you just need to change the injectors and the Chip in the computer. (unless you are using the 4L80E.

With that said, you can unpin the bulkhead connector and pin in the 1990 wires into it if you need more length. Is there a reason why you didn't use the 5.7 Harness?

Thanks for combing my threads but I messed up the heading on the first post I think the heading on the second post is more accurate also my words somehow got combined on the second post. What I was trying to post was the gray wire from the 1990 and the rest of the wires left were from the 1987 still can't find a schematic where they go. Also the spade with of the terminals is different and the pins locations are not the same. The 350 harness is actually from the 1990. The 454 wiring harness was very nice that's why I used it. Besides those wires all of the rest of the wires match up. The 454 has two oil sending units and 1990 tbi 350 only has one that might be some of the difference
