My 76 has a 350 with a crate block mated to a TH350, purchased in 2004 by the previous owner. I think the 290HP model as I can't get my over-sized skull in there to get the cast number off of it. It drives OK now but want to refresh it. Also periodic vapor lock issue but I bought a phenolic spacer and new fuel lines to see how that helps and will re-route the lines.
In any event, I did a compression test and all 8 came back in the 145+ range so that seemed OK?
I would like to yank it out and replace the cam, heads, intake, and carb (possibly, have a 1406 now). Goal is more HP but also more torque for my 35's. This will be a DD without any off-road, factory axles on it now.
Any recommendations for cam, heads, and intake? EFI isn't out of the question just have to decide if I want to run a return line back to the tank.
Goals are more HP, torque, and experience :)

Unless you are having issues with the engine, I would recommend starting with gear ratio selection and adding overdrive.

ill go with this also, 4.10 ratio (easily found in ¾ tons) and a mild built 700r4. then if you want more engine power youre setup for it. if you want crazy power get the 700r4 built for it

With stock converter, and dish pistons
Cam: Probably no bigger than a Voodoo 256, Comp XE262, Comp 268HE, Elgin 1065 cam, Crane 272 Energizer
Heads: Vortec, World Product torquer 170cc 042660, Flotek, Assault, NGK. Any head 185cc or less would do, for the 290hp crate engine
Intake: Edelbrock Performer.
A healthy stock quadrajet is hard to beat, on a stock or q-jet edelbrock intake.
