This is a stupid question but...
« on: May 27, 2002, 04:00:00 PM »
I need to make sure. What weight oil do I put in the T-case, and front and rear diffs? I'd say 90 front and rear, but i'm not sure about the T-case. Any help is appreciated... Thanx

The diffs call for 80w90 and the xfer case calls for Dexron ATF.

Hold up a second.  It depend on what transfer case he has.  The NP205 and NP203 take 80w90 and im not sure about the NP208.  Did it smell like differetial fluid (distinctive smell) when you took it out.  Give us some info about you truck so that we can make a proper decision.

the 205 does take 80w90 but, the 203 runs on 10w40, because it is a full time case if you use the 90w stuff the t-case will not oil properly and will wear out alot quicker.  i did the same thing till i read an article about mile markers part time convertion kit.

I could smell that it was tranny fluid when I drained it. Autozone it takes Dextron III.

I've heard that even on the part time cases that call for Dexron, if they whine too much you can put 10w30 in them.  Any confirmations on that?

I saw a nv 241 that had gear oil in it.  The hydrolic force of the heavy oil cracked the case.  I believe that all the aluminum cases use dexron
