Had a truck kinda fall into my lap today.
« on: April 30, 2008, 07:08:50 PM »
I was talking to a friend today about my 89 F-150 and how I like driving it but I can't do much of anything with it without fighting the computer and everything else.  He then asked me if I would consider taking another chevy for a cheap price.  I told him I would consider anything as long as it would run, didn't care how well, it just had to be able to move on its own.  He then told me he  had a 1978 Chevrolet K-20 silverado.  I went and looked and it has a newer 350 engine, sm465 4 speed, 205 transfer case, 14 bolt ff rear, dana 44 front, heavy rear springs, and a full interior setup and a factory tach that was not cut up or disturbed.  The original AM radio was still in there...works too.  It needs rockers, corners, and floor halves.  It did not have any fire, so I gave him a dizzy to put in so he could try to start it.  It fired right up and smoked like a pig for about 20 minutes(has not run since 2001).  I asked what he wanted for it and he said $500.00.  I told him I'd give 450 cash if he threw in a set of doors for it, cause the ones on it are junk.  Well, I own it now.

Sounds like you found one of those rare deals!  "It ran when it was parked"  :D

Well, I put a distributor in it and it fired right up, smoked for about 20 minutes and then was fine.  Then the prev. owner's wife got mad cause she wanted it for a mud toy.  Rather than take it from his house and have her mad at him for the rest of his natural life, I just told him if it would be easier to give me my money back, keep the distributor and make her happy.  He chose that option.  So, I called a friend of mine who owns my 76 K-20 that I traded in January and I will be buying it back this evening.  The taillights don't work on it so I'll have to figure that one out, but oh well.

The other truck was gonna need some major work to fix it up.  No fuel tank(save for a boat tank), 15psi oil press cold and maybe 5 hot, no exhaust, and a whole lot of rust underneath.  Cut my losses and got back one that I already know the running gear is good in, because I built all of it and put in there in the first place. ;D

I went to my friend's place this morning and started working on my 1976 K-20 that I traded to him in January and now own again.  The taillights were not working and when you turned on a turn signal, every light would flash and the truck would just refuse to work.  That i why I was able to get it back, my friend had been trying to fix it with my help for over two weeks.  I called the guy I got it from and he told me it did the same thing when he put the bed on it.  There is a little ground wire behind the driver side tail light.  Well, it is now clean, secured, and has a backup in place and the lights work fine now.  I still have to weld up a spring perch so it will sit level, but other than that it's ready to go.

It something, and karma seems to be a decent explanation.  I was condiderate to my friend.  I told him I had fixed the wiring and asked if he wanted to call the deal off and keep her since he still had the money I gave him in his posession, he said he was tired of fixing things and I should just take it or he was gonna crush it anyway.  I told him keep the money and I took it.
