Title: Under hood spray paint
Post by: MY1978 on April 18, 2021, 07:13:48 AM
I need to repaint my air filter housing and I want to paint my master cylinder.  I may also touch up radiator and engine bay wheel wells.  I want to use a flat black and was wondering about any suggestions for the paint.  Will high heat Rustoleum primer and paint be a good choice?  This is not a show truck, this my driver a few times a week, during nice weather, so do not need any fancy ceramic, high priced, shiny paint.

Thanks

That's a good choice. They also make a satin finish, not shiny but not flat. Subtle.

Make sure you clean surfaces thoroughly, I use brake cleaner on bare metal prior to shooting.

Painters tip: use a blow dryer to gently heat the paint can. Two benefits: paint flows easily, and pressure increases slightly inside the can, causing a finer spray.

I also preheat the surface that I'm painting the same way for the same results.

Post some before and after pics!
