Help ! Think I may have a really bad problem.
« on: December 18, 2011, 02:32:52 PM »
I have a 1980 C10 with an 350 that was taken out of a 1985 K5 Blazer, it has a 4bbl rochester Q-jet carburetor that was rebuild. Yesterday I installed the carb started the truck it ran really rough and stall out. When I restarted it the same thing, ran rough and stall out but this time the engine jumped violently, and now it seems like something in the engine is stuck and won't allow it to crank at all. The numbers on the is 17058466

Possible the float is stuck in the carb and filled a cylinder with gas and now that cylinder can't make its way to the top because it can't evacuate the fuel.
Do you have an electric fuel pump? Do you smell gas?
You could try pulling the plugs and see if it would crank over then.
Anyone else thinking the same thing?
That's the only thing I can think that would not allow you to even get it turning over.

Could be a hydrolock, but that would be a gob of gas.

Starter?  Dead battery?  Can you turn it over by hand?

Weirdest thing ! I pulled the starter, nothing change then I pulled the fuel pump and heard a thump like something moved. And now it starts but still runs rough. Could it have been that the fuel pump arm was binding up and somehow holding the engine ?

 The firing order should be the same on a 1980 350 and 1985 350, yes ?   1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

Marry Christmas everyone ! Yes I removed the distributor in the swap, when reinstalling I use my dads old school mather. Hand crank the engine till the # 1 cylinder was at TDC and without looking at distributor dropped it in, tighten it down crank the motor through one complete cycle pull the # 1 plug again hand crank to TDC remove the dist-cap and see that the rotor is pointing at the # 1 wire tower. Which it was, installed all the wires in there towers size accordingly number taped them and ran them to there appropriate plugs, check the timing and I was done.

i agree with Irish.  You may be firing on exhaust stroke.  just for giggles, put her back at TDC, remove wires from distributor and put #1 wire on the #6 spot on the distributor and continue around that way as if #6 was number 1.  See what happens.
