Look into the Edelbrock SDT line. I hade them on my catted 01 Silverado and loved them. Little rumble at idle, but she would talk if you stabbed the go pedal.

Yeah i ran my truck for a week or so after i did the current exhaust with just the cat and some 3in pipe and it was obnoxious! The longtubes and it being a highflow cat didnt helpo keep the sound down much! I have a 14in magnaflow on my 03 yukon with a intake and tune manifolds and cats(for now) and its pretty loud when i get on it and tame while cruising most of the sound you hear while cruising is the intake. The truck will be my dd mainly to work and when i go places without the family to same mileage on the yukon and so i can finish its mods. I can deal with some noise but not alot. I want something loud when i get on it and somewhat tame but good sound at idle/cruise. Turbo mufflers and catted exhaust with a cam dont sound cool at idle :) i like everyone else to hear the lope too lol

Everyone has their own opinions on muffler sounds, I like the sound of the original 40 series flowmasters, I also like the sound of glasspacks..And, contrary to popular belief, glasspacks can last for a decade or more..Mine have been on my truck since well before I bought it 3 years ago, one of the cats has actually rusted in two and the glasspacks are still in primo condition. My uncle's truck that I'm going to buy this winter has had the same set of glasspacks on its dual exhaust for over 15 years, and they have yet to blow out.

ive been through several exhaust setups in the past 2 years.
going from magnaflow to summit fake flowmasters to glasspacks to now Thrush welded.
from my standpoint i really loved the magnaflows but they were just to mellow.
the glasspacks were God awful obnoxious.
the summit fake flowmasters broke apart inside.
and the thrush mufflers im running now sound a bit deeper then the fake flows and talk to you at idle.
heres a couple clips of what my different mufflers sounded.

Fake Flows:

Thrush Welded:

ive got the magnaflow and glasspack ones but their on my computer still.

yea the two sound different, but you also change the tailpipe setup, so its hard to do a true back to back comparison.

I tried one of the flowmaster 10's on my dually and it was loud and would shake the house when my wife started the truck in the morning.  We bought a Thrush welded muffler, but it's still loud enough that you can't really speak inside the cab.  The mufflers are dumped under the bed.  Both mufflers sounded similar as far as tone...just the flowmaster was louder.  I personally want to try the Dynomax Ultra flow welded mufflers.  I heard that they are quiet and flow real good.

Too bad you have a cat truck... My 77 has hooker super comps, an H-pipe and 2 glasspacks. quiet in town and roars real good when I'm on it! I've got my tips at a 45 angle in front of my tires. Has a muscle look. Don't know about your muffler tho, I like my glasspacks

I have a similar setup but I swapped out my turbos for Dynomax Ultraflo's. It's a nice sound. Pretty snappy too when I open it up. I have 2 1/4" pipes and 3" tips but I'd like to upgrade to a dual 2 1/2" setup.

The ultaflo mufflers are good as well as magnaflows since they both are a straight through design. Its weird cause magnaflow mufflers seem to be quieter on the gen 1 motors for some reason. My 14in magniflow on my 03 yukon with a 5.3 really roars when i open it up and from what i hear that once i put on longtubes and my ory it will be very loud...

i run hedman headers into true dual 2 1/2 pipe with thrush welded mufflers that exit on each side behind the rear tires a bit loud but not overbearing, you can still talk inside the cab without yelling, previously i had a burban with stock mainifolds into 2 1/2 inch pipe a thrush glasspack that exited in front of the rear drivers side tire lot more power than the cat and flowmaster exhaust that rotted off it and i personally loved the sound of the glasspack when i got on the throttle,my brother in law runs hooker headers 2 1/2 inch pipe into 2 glasspacks that exit down to the ground before the rear axle and its not bad putting around town but when he gets on it it screams and has set of car alarms sound is nice but power is the way to go thats my opinion i toyed with the idea of removing my mufflers and putting in straight pipe but im lucky i just got a 2 year inspection sticker so im good for a while

Yeah not concerent with being too loud just enough so the cam can be heard unlike the turbo mufflers. I like the straight through mufflers

Glasspacks!..Everybody has Flowmasters and in my opinion it sounds boring and like crap. It sounds like blowing air through a coffee can or something.(?) My 2 cents.

I run true duals into a pair of thrush welded on my k10. They have a deep throaty tone. I personally can't stand the blappy/crackly sound you get with glass packs.
