Think of it in a simplistic manner...I guess dumb yourself down. Some people look at it like what comes in goes out and all variables are based on the mechanics of the engine... Therefore any flow changes would be based on deisgn changes of the runners., ports, valve size, compression ratio etc.
In some peoples minds when you change the cam profiles on I E you have more variables...
If that makes any sense.
