Loose 4x4 Floor Shifter
« on: November 16, 2015, 04:29:54 PM »
On my dash the 4X4 light comes on even though it is not engaged at all. I will wiggle the shifter around and the light will go off, but as soon as I go over a little bump it will light up again. The shifter has play and has a vibration and irritating rattle as if gears are making very slight contact. Are there any typical components that wear out that are to be replaced (like a seat/collar) to make it an easy fix or is there more to it? If anyone has a tutorial that would be awesome as well. Thanks!

What transfer case do you have? That will tell you more troubleshooting steps.

NP205 I believe. Every component on that truck is still stock.

Is the pivot bolt tight? Does the pivot bolt, or shifter have a grease fitting?
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs
