cutting coils

I want to drop the front end (77gmc) 2 inchs.  If I cut one coil each off my springs would it really ride that much rougher?  Does anyone know if one coil would drop it 2 inchs or would it be too much or not enough?

Being the coils are relatively old, there is no way to accurately state how much cutting off the coil will yeild 2" drop.  TYPICALLY 1/2 should be a good starting point.  If you have no experience in doing this, I wouldn't recommend it.

Already done.  Took it apart, cut off half and put it back together.  This gave me .5 inch drop, not enough.  Took it apart again and cut off another half.  Back together and it gave me another inch drop for a total of 1.5.  That's good enough for me.  Incidentally I cut from the bottom of the coil and used a metal cutting band-saw.  Looks great and the ride never noticeably changed either.  Wouldn't want to cut anymore off though.

You did it the correct way.  I wouldn't try for more than 2" the ride will suffer.
