1987 R10 manual transmission swap
« on: March 02, 2015, 10:55:36 PM »
Hello everyone, this is my first post and I really need some assistance.

First off, hello, My name is Marc and I have a 1987 R10 2WD R10. It's like a forest green color, lowered in the back with Autozone drop shackles, and cut springs in the front. I know not the mot elegant way to drop the truck, but at the time it's all I can afford. I will do it in a better configuration when I can afford it. I have also swapped out the tired old 305 TBI to a 383 stroker with a Comp cam with a medium "aggresiveness" profile, a Holley 650 Carb, Weind intake, Eagle flat top pistons, rods and crank. Also have an Accel HEI yellow distributor that I'm going to be putting in soon, with a true dual custom 2.5" exhaust with an X-pipe and tips that exit before both rear tires.

Anyway my question is, I'm swapping the original 700R4 for a 2wd NV3500 manual transmission. Now my truck has a 27 spline output shaft and the NV has a 32 spline shaft. I just need to know what driveshaft to use, or if I can swap just the yoke and where to get one? I have everything else sorted, the driveshaft is the only thing hanging me up. What year would the driveshaft have to come from? what length would I need? I have googled this 8,000,000 times and come up with nothing. Maybe I'm just missing it, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

Marc B.
also, when I get a chance to wash it up and do some decent detailing, I will take some pictures and make a proper introduction thread in the welcome sub-forum, thanks again for the help guys!

I think the 4wd rear driveshafts have 32 splines

th400 and 4l80e are a 32 spline

700r4, 4l60 and th350 are 27 splines

sm465 from 68-78 is 10 splines (35 for 2wd)
79+ is 32 splines (35 for 2wd).

should be output since hes talking about the drive shaft of the nv3500 being 32 splines, as far as length that would be found out after you swap trans. from what i can find the nv3500 is 28" and the 700r4 is 30¾". the 28" is only one mans opinion i like to find more that say the same measurements.
