« on: December 03, 2006, 12:05:00 PM »
Got a 74 c20 w/454 & th400.  Got no passing gear.  Beleive that I'm missing electric switch on carb to activate electric switch found on tranny.  Does anybody know what parts I need to correct this shortcoming?

The detent solenoid is activated with Battery voltage through the switch on the gas pedal on your truck. See if it's there.

Do Th350s have this to? My 85 with a mild 350 and TH350 w/shift kit won't shift down into 1st from 2nd at WOT.  Even shifting down to 2nd from 3rd is hit or miss.  If revs are below 2000, then it sometimes might.  That's just silly. What can I adjust or check?

85 Chevy Silverado C10 short, wide, yellow, 2wd. Lowered, 60-over 350 with Dart Iron Eagle heads and Comp Cams XE268 cam, TH350 w/ shift kit, 3.40 Gov-lok 12 bolt.

Th350's don't use a switch, they use the kickdown TV cable.  Sounds like yours needs adjusting.

To have it kick down quicker you need to move the cable housing towards the back (towards transmission).  There should be a button on the cable that you can depress, it generally only needs to be moved a small amount at a time.

I would depress the cable after adjustment with the engine off to verify that it allows WOT.

You also have a vacuum modulator that should have a vacuum hose attached to it. Check it also

I had the same problem with my th400. There was no power going the the detent solenoid. Its an orange wire by the way. Make sure it has power. Also reset your switch above the gas pedal by pushing the plunger all the way in. This presets it for the first time you hit WOT.
