4" lift extended front flex hoses
« on: May 26, 2017, 03:52:05 PM »
I'm having a heck of a time finding the appropriate flex hoses for my lifted front end. The part sold by Russell, part number 695710 is for lighter duty calipers than what are currently on my truck.

Here are pictures of my caliper and existing flex line:

This is a picture of what Russell offers:

Does anyone have the part number that I require, or perhaps offer an alternative or other suggestions?

I'm not really keen on downgrading my calipers if I can help it.

we have this stickied in the suspension lift. but to sum it up if you want you can order the brake hose for your year and size truck (or axle if it differs) but get it for a 2wd.

On another post we have a guy asking for "what size lift" we're guessing at this point. One thing I want to do is have people with lift kits with a known height, measure something. I have never installed anything other than a 6", I didn't have to replace the front drive shaft but it stretches it beyond the safe limit and while it will work it won’t hold up for much abuse. I also replaced the brake lines with stainless steel ones. I don't know what size lift you should replace the lines but while you're working on it may be a good time to replace them just to be on the safe side

Brake lines
Why waste money when you don’t have too or don’t have the extra money for those stainless braided fancy brake lines? When you can buy cheaper brake lines that will do the same thing

Front brake lines

New brake lines from 2wd C10 of the same era.. Slightly longer and bolt right on.

Part # 36760 from Napa. Measures around 24.5" from end to end.
I've gotten most of what I need now but one of the biggest issues with these trucks is that in 1978? They switched from a 7/16" banjo fitting to a 10mm banjo fitting on the caliper. Now this means one could swap the calipers but that is going to be more money.

What I have discovered is NAPA part # 38622 and 38623 which are left/right brake hoses which are 26" in length but its a 10mm banjo nut. People have drilled this out successfully to 7/16" without any issues and that is what I think I will be doing.

Rear brake line

Napa part # 381272 which will give you 22.50" of length. I'm not sure what that part number is for or from but it worked well for me. I think it'll work mostly on the 73-80 years but may work on the later years as I'm not sure what the fittings are after 80.

Front brake line
no LT Part number from autozone
Rear brake line
381272 brake line is for a 2000+Chevy
78843 autozones part number
Totals about $62 vs $105

also i kind of covered it

Okay, thank you all. I saw one of those posts earlier when I was evaluating my springs and shocks. Somehow I didn't even think to consider it for the brake lines. The local parts store ordered the wrong part (for the 10mm bolt head) 3 times, and I guess I thought it was a bigger problem then it really is.

Thanks again.

I think that is where much of my confusion was coming from.

My truck is an 80, k20, Camper Special, which would tell me that the banjo bolts should be the 10mm, and the square block, however the calipers on my truck were definitely not this style as you can see in the pictures I posted.

I am making an assumption that the 7/16 and the 10mm are referring to the head of the bolt, and not the actual bolt size.

If I knew going into this that I had the wrong calipers on the truck, I would probably have switched them out to avoid confusion down the road, but now I have to live with it I think.

could be an axle from an older truck was swapped in. i "think" the 10mm refers to the width of the bolt not the head

this is the 10mm brake hose. compare that to the ones i posted above for the 7/16

and just one more thing. 73-78 is the dana 44 78+ is the 10 bolt. but the 44 was carried over in some applications

10 bolt

44

My front axle appears to be a GM 10-bolt to me.

I put some calipers on the eye of the fitting and it is 10mm.

My conclusion is that I need the 10mm fittings.

The fittings you show above look a lot closer to any other fittings I've seen so far, so I'm going to go with that.

Someone please correct me if I am not correctly identifying my axle.
