I may be the only spokesman for 700R4's on this board, so I feel I should speak my mind here. I would just find a different tranny shop if I were you. My 700R4 has spent 45K miles behind 400HP in a K10 with gastly abuse - offroading, dragracing, and manical street driving - I've even pulled trailers in overdrive (just like you're not supposed too).
Granted, my 1-2 shift will chirp all four tires and my 2-3 (at around 70mph) will still spin the back tires. I do get slambed around a lot during normal daily driving. But I average 13.5 mpg with highway mileage as high as 16. Now I spent almost $3000 on this tranny. That may seem crazy, but that extra money has almost paid itself back over the past three years in what I have saved in gas money. My tranny has outlived a cam, timing chain, torque converter, two rearends, u-joints, brakes, and numerous engine and crossmember mounts. It is still performing like the day it went in.
Since I don't remember you have a bunch of mods on your engine, I'm thinking a good $1000 rebuild would outlast just about every other moving part on your truck. And if you plan on putting a lot of miles on your truck, the cost will eventually be worth the extra mileage.
