Engine Identification
« on: January 31, 2024, 03:55:47 PM »
I would like to verify the year of an engine block I have. My engine block info is:

4 BOLT MAIN BLOCK; Casting Number 3970010 (29 GM), My Engine ID Number is: C4A1C7254 V0831TMR
What does (TMR) Stand for - Transmission Manual?

What I have seen is: Year: 1969-79   Casting:3970010   350   HP 185   HHP 370   Main: 2 or 4   (car, truck, Vette)

I understand it was produced in Flint, August 31
The casting indicates a 350, yet I saw someplace that C4A stands for a 305 - is that wrong. Where can find the manufacture year?

Can we get a engine identification chart on the forum or do we have one? I did not see one, yet I could have missed it.

Thanks VZ, missed that on the nasty WEB site. I was suppose Cal in application means California and not sure what M LT9 stands for in engine VIN, but guessing Light Truck.
