85 K10 newbie looking for swap advice
« on: May 13, 2016, 08:26:03 AM »
Hey guys,
I have been lurking through your boards and have been trying to learn everything that I need to before I start buying parts for my swap. I was wondering if anybody has had luck with Monster transmissions? I have a tired old 305, an NP208, and a 7R400. My transmission currently leaks and slips. She has to go. Anyways, I am not sure if I am going to be able to swap out the 305 this summer or not. I am looking at 5.3s or maybe even a 6.0. Hoping to find a nice dropout with the harness modified and ecu flashed.  Do you think that a monster transmission is a good idea? Will it be able to hold up if I do throw a 6.0 in front of her? I might run the monster behind the 305 for a while until I am ready. So I would like to stay with a 7R400. Can I trust them not to go overkill if I call them and let them know my requirements? I have no knowledge of which torque converter, or how they differ from each other. I am very new to wrenching on cars, but I have been learning as much as I can and stocking up on tools. I love this old square body Chevrolet, and any advice is greatly appreciated.

We just finished with our first LS swap

We did the harness ourselves using advice on Lt1swap.com
But if I had it to do over again I wouldn't bother with it
I'd do it like I did my bronco efi swap 20 years ago.   Just plug up everything  you need and tie back the un used plugs safely out of the way

We used "team208 motor sports" to tune the computer
And we are running a 5 speed manual from a 2007 Silverado

I like to let people make up their own minds. I have recently been swayed and I'm not going to say which way but for your reading pleasure.
