Beat by a 305!...That is some great reading right there! Hard to believe that was almost quarter of a century ago! Time flys.

i had one in my s10 bored .030, headers and a holley 600 cfm dual feed carb. was plenty of engine in that application. i wonder how it would have done in a c10.

I have a similar setup on my v6, headers, bored .30 over, and a 650cfm Edelbrock carb......its ok? It moves haha I wish I could find something to boost it up to around 250? Its really not feasible though without the heads Brodix USED to make....unless someone can correct me?

my 4.3 came stock with 9.3-1 compression and big valves. Considering that; i think 250 would be very feasable. mine was in a 2wd swb s10, 4 speed and some pretty short gears. so it was plenty.

I wish the factory put better cylinder heads on the 194,230,250 and 292 engines. I believe that is the main object holding these engines back from making real serious power.

That Nelson 4.3 is amazing!!! He builds some serious engines. The only problem is that they are only for those with DEEP pockets.

OK 3 things/maybe 4:
1) nelson is willing to negotiate on prices since the economy is bad; He was recently on adam corolla's car podcast---a very good podcast if you are hardcore into cars.
2) i also thought that the 4.3 weighs pretty close to an v-8 small block, but the article says it's 125 lbs. lighter?
3) The other thing i'm skeptical about is they were saying that the 305 got 20mpg and the 4.3 got 21.9 mpg. These were both 4x4 trucks with 31x10.5 tires. They didn't give the specs on the 305 engine. i'm not saying not possible, but i'm very skeptical.
4) i feel the 4.3 IS the engine to go with IF you're staying with gas and you want max mpg.

Stand out from from the crowd, don't follow it everyone and there brother has a 350 there in every hot rod out there, if everyone just followed the crowd we would all be driving rice cookers with soup cans for mufflers

If it was easier to supercharge or turbo them they'd probably be more popular than what they are, but their is a million better ways to go for you're money
