Title: Tranny shifting issues
Post by: mdc10 on December 28, 2012, 09:58:16 AM
Alright fellows maybe someone here can help me out. My truck had a th350 I pulled it out and went back with 700r4. The tranny works good in drive and OD but won't shift down past drive, since the swap i cant get it to go into 1 or 2, so what's the deal? I've heard it could be 2 different things, the 1st being is that a th350 has a shift gate with 3 notches and the 700r4 has to have a gate with 4 notches. The 2nd thing is the linkage needs to be longer. So which is it? Have any of you guys done the same swap and been through this, if so what did you do, and what was the problem. Thanks.

Are you saying you can't manually shift into all gear ranges? The detents are in the transmission not the column so adjust your linkage.

I did a tranny swap from a TH350C to a 700R4 in my 1985 C10 with a 305.  I had to adjust the linkage some but it all worked as it should.  The linkages are the same, the only difference is you use a different set of holes in the frame to bolt the cross member back into it.  The electric plug for the lockup is even the same, at least it was on my truck.

No I can't manually shift into 1 or 2, so it's my linkage?
