84 wiper switch schematics
« on: August 24, 2016, 04:32:35 AM »
Does anyone have a source for a good schematic for the wiper switch that comes out of the column?  I have a 5 wire connector with a light blue, black, pink, grey, and black with blue tracer.  I'm trying to use a newer more sleek 95 GM wiper motor and it requires power for each speed.  Thanks.  Alex.

Look in my signature.  1984 gm light truck wiring diagrams.
The switch is on the ground side in 1984.

Awesome link bud.  Do you think there is a way to make the wiper motor work with the factory switch or do I need to get something else to power the unit up?

Are you sure it'll bolt up?
You may want to check that first before you jump down the rabbit hole.  This is not a drop in.  You're going to need info on both the donor and victim.

I'd look into using a 1988-94 T400 column to get the right switches or at least snag a donor column.

I've scanned & posted the 88-94 T400 schematics on another board.

More thoughts....
Get an 88-94 column and an 84-91 column to experiment with.
The 88-94 GMT400 column wiper & dimmer switches might mechanically fit the 84-91 squarebody column...  you aren't worried about compatibility with the existing 1984 cab harness.  The only way to know is to try it.

You can probably liberate the column to firewall and firewall to wiper motor wiring as two subharnesses from your donor and remove / replace the 1984 wiring.  Extracting Delphi Packard 56 terminals from the firewall bulkhead plug is fairly easy.

The 1993 wiring diagrams seem to use the same circuit numbers as 1984.
1995 wiring is in the emissions and service manuals.  95 is when GM discovered they could afford the next generation of embedded hardware.  They did a pretty radical redesign of the electrical and again in 96 & again in 97.  Airbags and other obnoxious hardware. I'd stick with 94 and down for that reason.

My GMT400 service manual project.
Parts books are only paper from 88-93 I dont have the ability to digitize microfiche...
