Electric fuel pump
« on: October 04, 2006, 03:17:00 PM »
Hi guys, I have a 73 cheyenne with an electric fuel pump. It is wired to the ignition tang on the fuse box and runs whenever the switch is on. My question is : what is the safest and most reliable way to wire the pump? What parts will I need? Oh yeah the engine is a stock 454 with 350 trans behind it.

Sounds like it is hooked up the safest way if it is running off switched power. (although I am a little confused on the application..)
Why are you running a electric pump on a stock 454?

That's the way it was when I bought it. Is it overkill and if it is how would it affect my engine. Thanks.

Is it running a regulator on it?
The mechanical pump on the engine is more than enough to provide fuel to a street engine running a carb.  It only needs 5-7lbs of pressure for a Carb motor.

It isn't going to hurt anything if it is hooked up correctly though.
