If the lifter looks that bad, the Lobe on the cam is shot.  You wouldn't want to reuse it.

Regrinding cams is pretty much a thing of the past. Besides it isn't the cam that's so pricey it's the roller lifters for big blocks that are mucho denero

Anything dealing with an engine is pricey.  Looks good.  I can't wait to see the pics.  Don't rush though.

Update:

Got the block back from the machine shop - bored and hot tanked

New pistons on the rods

Then I put in the cam bearings

Then the core plugs

Put the crank in and plastigauged it

Check the ring gaps and then plastigauged the rods

Next my I did a 3 angle valve job and my g/f back cut the valves 30°s...then she polished and masked the valve covers for paint while I finished porting and cleaning the heads

I had the machine shop pick up the heads and resurface them and had them machine down the guides to accommodate the smaller valve seals. I'll be getting the heads back tomorrow and can start to reassemble them then check my combustion chamber volume after resurfacing. I'll post more pix as I progress

Is that gasket glue you use for the freeze plugs?

Good info, no telling what you'll pick up here. I have always used the Indian Head .

I see now that Aviation has the higher temp range. Thanks. ;D

Valve covers:

I got the heads back from being resurfaced and the guides being machined down to accept the smaller valve seals. I will start measuring and reassembling the heads tomorrow.

+2, really good work on those valve covers.  i'm gonna have to customize some when i do my engine swap...i know it's a 350 CHEVY engine, but i don't want a GMC with Chevy valve covers (it has some nice chrome Chevrolet valve covers now).  so i either want it to say "GM", 350, GMC or something to that effect.  i like what you did with the 454 emblem and just the GM oil cap...looks really good.

Thanks, I wanted I a GMC oil cap but couldn't find one. I may or may not keep the GM one. It's tough finding cool GMC lettering. Everything has the bowtie and there's nothin worng with that but you're right, if it's a GMC it shouldn't have bowtie's over Chevrolet everywhere...
