tranny swap
« on: December 18, 2006, 10:22:00 PM »
I recently put a 700r4 tranny in my 79 chevy and I was wondering what is the easiest and best way to hook up a lock up kit for the converter?  I have seen alot of different ones on ebay but I am unsure at this point plus some of them are pretty expensive for what comes is the kit.  It seems simple but I want to do it right the first time around.....any suggestions.....

Here's a link to an externally wired lock up kit from Monster Transmissions.

cool thanks....went ahead and ordered the full kit from bowtieoverdrives.com.  This kit keeps me from having to flip a switch to lock up the converter in 4th gear. Basically makes the tranny function like it does from the factory. The only thing is I have to drop the pan and re-wire a little and add a new pressure switch. Didn't really want to do that but it beats having to remember that dang switch if you happen to luck up the rear on the highway or something....I'll update when I get it installed this weekend if it arrives on time.

Finally got that 700r4 in and it good to go!  Went ahead and got the converter kit from bowtieoverdrives.com.  Great kit...basically keeps all of the guess work out if it. The only thing is you have to get the tv cable just right or it will shift into overdrive to quick but other than that its the right stuff!:D
