Alright so im getting ready to throw a holley street performer aluminum intake and a edelbrock 600cfm carb on my 86 305(stock). How is this setup going to perform? Should I go ahead and throw long tube headers on? Also what size spacer should I use? Thanks... - blue

its not going to do anything really over stock (mind you aluminum can in stock form also) unless your carb was really messed up. 600 is too big for a 305 unless youre turning 8000 rpms

Have you ever checked out a GM Performance Parts catalog? They've lists of part numbers for all of the components in each of the crate motors and lots of other cool stuff with a Bowtie on it.

HEADERS WILL MORE THAN LIKELY HELP SOME. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT USE A SPACER, IT WILL KILL THE BOTTOM END AND BOTTOM END IS ALL YOUR ENGINE HAS RIGHT NOW. 600 CFM WOULD ABSOLUTELY BE TO LARGE BUT STILL MAY AN IMPROVEMENT DEPENDING ON WHAT YOUR STOCK SETUP IS LIKE.

Actually spacers can help in many ways as long as it is the proper setup. The one good thing they help with is heat soak of the carb and reduce that greatly.
I'm running a 1/2" one on my truck with a dual plane and it goes like stink.

Im just saying my truck had a 383 stroker with Comp. Magnum 280 hydraulic cam, headers, 1 step above stock converter, and 4.10 gears. Edelbrock RPM Performer Air Gap with a 600 Holley and a 1" spacer. I pulled the spacer off at the track and picked up e.t. 1.5 tenths and backed it up 4 passes in a row. i was shifting at 5000. Now I'm sure if my setup was capable of 6500 or 7000 it may have helped. Years ago I had a 525 horse stroker with Victor and 850 double pumper shifting at 7700 and that car was faster without the spacer to.

Your not really giving much information on the spacer or anything else. Types, shape, material etc all help.

The spacer I removed was a 1" aluminum spacer with the 4 bores.

You just want some sort of insulating spacer under the Edelbrock. They get testy when too hot.
Just a 1/4" spacer won't mess up your torque. Mr. Gasket has one.
