The babe, my '87 V20
« on: August 18, 2016, 04:37:58 AM »
Hey guys! I recently sold my 2007 Silverado to buy this gorgeous '87 V20. The '07 had wheel well rust and this V20 is the cleanest square I've ever seen in person. (Minnesotan here haha) I have wanted a truly rust free square for years and I finally got one. It's from Arizona, the guy I bought it from has a buddy who travels down to Arizona a lot and brings back clean vehicles. Luckily I was able to sell my '07 and go buy the '87 the same day! Here are some pictures!

Current specs:
TBI 350 and TH400
123k miles
6" Rough Country lift
315/75/16 tires (35")

Plans for it are:

Swap in a mild 5.3 Vortec and 4L80E
Skyjacker 8" lift springs
ORD shackle flip
37 or 38" tires
Turbo eventually
Redo the paint (clear coat is gone in a lot of spots, keeping this color scheme!)

I've got a 5.3 from a buddies 2000 Silverado we parted out, ready for some TLC.

Plans for the 5.3 is a Brian Tooley Racing stage II or III Truck Cam, PAC 1904 valvesprings, LS7 lifters, BTR 5/16 pushrods, ARP head bolts, and some other little things. 4L80E is going to stay stock for now, but will have a 2600-2800 Circle D stall converter.

At least... that's what the plan is at the moment! Excited to share my progress on this, my best friend is letting me build it in his garage this winter along with his '79 square he's working on!

Nice truck. Other than removing get the chrome plate on the hood, I wouldn't change a thing, looks great the way it is.

Well not a huge update but I took the chrome plate off the front of the hood, looks better but unfortunately I discovered some bubbled paint and scuff marks behind it. Oh well, it'll get repainted at some point anyway

Nice truck but you might want to not drive it in your winters. It will look like your 07.

winter driving is hard on a vehicle but it's no guarantee of rust, my dads 2001 dodge has one rust spot on the whole body (from a stone chip that was left unfixed) but it's been oil sprayed every year before winter since new. Nice truck by the way, my crew cab came from Minnesota, it was a brush truck for the City of Cottage grove so it's never seen salt either

Yeah it's definitely not being driven in winter. It's going to be parked in my buddies gatage this winter while it gets worked on and the 5.3 is being built and put in along with the 4L80E and whatever else I can get done on it before spring

Does anyone know of a way I can keep the manufacture date on the side of the frame if I paint the rest of the the frame? I just think it's so cool. Could I just clear coat over that part of it or something?

could always just redo it yourself. granted it wont be as special but it will still have a story behind it

I made a four hour round trip the other day with a buddy to trade his beater Dodge neon for a square body! He's getting a crew cab '91 and this is a parts truck for it. Truck did great!
