Retrofitting modern hood locks? 1976 GMC Sierra
« on: October 17, 2017, 07:28:41 PM »
Someone I know of once had a battery stolen out of their old 70s Chevy Van. My 1976 GMC 1500 has the exact same hood release that can be accessed from outside the vehicle. Just bought a new battery for winter.

So is there anybody out there who makes conversion kits, or has ever retrofitted some type of hood locking device? I'm just not sure of the right words to put into google to find anything on this. I thought this would be a great place to ask.

Thanks everybody. Happy driving!

Google keyed hood pins if you don't mind boring two holes in the hood.

Awesome thanks. Truck needs a new hood anyways. I didn't even think of locking hood pins. Will doors and boxes from the 87s fit on a 76?

in short yes. the internals will be slightly different but it wont effect door operation

You can convert to an internal hood release

My ‘77 K-10 Scottsdale had an inside hood release. You just need to find the O.E. parts to make yours work.
