Engine lot: worth getting or leave in scrap yard?
« on: August 05, 2005, 08:04:00 AM »
Okay, once again, I have thrown myself into a scrap yard/ salvage yard to see what 73-87 parts I could find.  We may need a moment of silence here, the owner is a friend of mine and when I asked where many of the 73-80 chevrolet's went, he said that in the last year, people brought him over nine-hundred trucks of that range and he crushed them all on the spot to keep his lot from filling up.:( >:

Anyway, he has some chevrolet engines sitting in an old school bus that all run, there are two 427 tall decks, one 454, and 2 350 4 bolt engines.  He want $500.00 for the whole lot of them, could this be worth it?

Id buy em for 500.00, easy money to be made off the 350 4-bolts, could probably get your 500 back out of the 350's. have a free 454 & TD427

Well, it won't be too bad of a deal if you can afford the loss of space for storage.  The tall deck blocks are not that good of an investment in my opinion though.

I have a 12 by 20 shed under my patio that I have cleaned out, so storage is not an issue.  I was planning to put one of the td's in my buddies 75 c-70 in place of his 366.

darn crusher happy autowreckers anyway, same thing happened here. went to ours few weeks ago looking for a boxside which they had plenty of good ones and turns out when the biz went bankrupt and changed hands they crushed every dismantled body part they had so they wouldnt have to drag it across town when they relocated. as for the engines if you could find buyers or a use for them right away itd be a good deal, other than that there basically cores
