1986 c10 slow blinkers and no brake lights?
« on: September 12, 2020, 07:32:53 PM »
Hey y'all it's been awhile!

So on my way home from work I noticed the blinker indicators on my dash were blinking slower than usual, like they'd stay a dim solid before flashing then taking awhile again to flash.

When I got home I threw on my blinkers and noticed that my front blinkers were good and bright (but blinking slowly), while my rear blinkers were very dim, blinking slowly, and seemed like they would slowly fade in and out when they turned on and off. Then I tried my brakes and I have no brake lights, at all period, nothin'.

But when I turn on my hazards the front blinkers are good and bright and blinking quickly as they should while the rears are trying to blink just as fast all they seem to do is come in and out dimly.

So... Help? Everything was working fine a few days ago.
If it ain't broke don't fix it, upgrade it!

There are two flashers.  One flashes the turn signals, the other flashes the 4-ways.  Replace the turn signal flasher and check the rear lamp ground connections.

Which one is for the blinkers, the one on the bottom right of the fuse block or the one that's off to the right on its own with the square relay above it?

The turn signal flasher is in the fuse box.

Alright, just replaced the flasher and it's still acting up. Also noticed that when I do use my blinker that the opposite blinker will blink dimly while the other blinks brightly at the same time.

I'm gonna guess it's a ground issue? Still got no brake lights or rear blinkers.

Fixed!!! Started looking into taking the taillights out when I noticed a disconnected wire. Turns out the ground wire broke, hooked it back up and huzzah brake lights!

Thanks for the help BD!
