holley electric choke

Okay, I have a question regarding electric choke gaskets. I think when I took this bad boy apart, there was just a gasket between the electric choke and housing. It was just an "O". I see that they do some weird gasket thing now. Do I need a gasket? Can I just cut one from gasket material? There is also a piece of leadshot in the opening come into the choke like where the manual cable would go. That right?
