Title: hesitation when in gear...
Post by: cowboy63645 on June 20, 2009, 11:11:17 PM
87 gmc 305 tbi and a 700R4 tranny.  When I start te truck it runs fine, but once I put it in gear and start in on the gas pedal it has a hesitation, especially if you try to put it to the floor...it will stuttr stp and try to die...any ideas as to what is causing this?

I just worked on an 88 that did the similar thing (plus was blowing out oil) I cleaned the throttle body out and no more problems. May not be your issue, but a thought. Maybe a tuneup or a throttle position sensor as well.

Do a tune up first and clean the throttle body really good like chop said. In fact pull the tbi off and clean all of the passages and you might want to even rebuild it because they get nasty. Check the fuel pressure regulator too. If you don't want to do that, check the tps also like chop said. There's a good start.
