If you strip all of that off, do yourself and others put a quality set of headers and carefully remove it.  A lot of that is NLA and worth $ to someone needing to meet emission compliance.  Without it, it won't pass the sniff test because of no catalytic convertors
Hey there me again. So when i take the air pump off it seems to be that the belt only works it. is this correct? also yes i need headers i know. just a hard sale to the wife lol. Thank you in advance

If it is a 1-ton, 454, why does it have air or cats?!

Good question, last summer i looked at an 86 GMC C30 cab and chassis with the 454 and sm465 and it also had the air pump and lines into the manifolds. My guess would be that the emissions stuff was put on the trucks setup for unleaded gas as until 90 or 91(i believe, could've been later) you could order heavy trucks (10,001 lbs GVW and higher) with a Carb that was setup for leaded gas and I've seen an 88 square body cab n chassis with a factory carb in person so they did/do exist.

Must be a Cali rig then.  My 1991 V3500 with the 454 did not have Cats and hence, no Air Injection.

yes still had the cali emissions sticker on it. i know it didnt have an air pump but i want to say it had an egr. or at least i think i would of noticed it missing. i know the exhaust shop didnt want to touch it cause i still had the cat in place when i told them i wanted to straight pipe it. i tried to tell them diesels back then didnt have cats but they said if it came from the factory like that they had to keep it.

i think it must be some other deciding factor because my 88 V30 1-ton crew cab with the TBI 454 IS NOT a California truck (came from Minnesota and may have been ordered through a government contract similar to the CUCV contract)  and it still has the air pump, egr and a cat on it.

Im in a similar boat-- I was querying my local inspector/mechanic about my new wreck (1987 V-10) and he said in this area after 20 years there is no emission requirement, told me I could pretty much go hog wild. I did some searches on this board about removing the smog crap.

Still have some unanswered questions--

If I go for some shorty headers with an 02 sensor bung welded in..will the computer post a code??

Does the computer monitor the smog pump or anything else in the system??

 Any other pit falls??

I plan on keeping the parts handy..got the belt situation figured out..  Im assuming the 02 sensor will tune the TBI accordingly

 Many Thanks
