« on: April 25, 2011, 07:46:13 PM »
well found out im not getting power to my switch can anyone tell me what color or have a diagram of what the wires are so i can have a power wire ran to the switch. my dad had me cut a red wire and hook it straight to the battery with a fusible link that has a 20amp fuse. and i turn the lights on only the headlights come on can you tell me what im doing wrong.

learn to read the schematic. it isnt that hard. find the device in the diagram, follow each wire and see where it goes. the headlights are a constant hot. that red wire is correct, so if your headlights still dont work, first check your fuses. then check to see if each headlight is grounded. check to see if headlights are not burnt out. check to see if any other lights dont work. do your taillights work? do your dome lights work?

on the 73-76 cab interior diagram, it's in the lower center - called LIGHT SWITCH
on the 77-80 cab interior diagram, it's in the lower right - called LIGHT SW
on the 81-87 cab interior diagram pg.2, it's in the lower center - called LIGHT SWITCH

if you tested the wires coming out of the switch, the switch is probably bad. they arent that expensive. $20 or less. rockauto.com

yeah only a yellow wire has power going out of the box by what i look at for autozone the parking losts run off a brown wire adn would i be able to hook that wire up to the battery and have a switch and fuse to run it so far this truck is so jimmy rigged as the ignition switch is out and it has a new 366 which when we bought it had a 366 jimmyrigged in and they did a bad job. since im not good with my vehicular mechanic abilities as im only 18 and have learned everything on my truck from just replacing whats went out

Huh?  Punctuation would help.....

Replace the headlight switch is what is recomended...  Don't hack the harness any more.

i have replaced the switch and its still only working headlights its not lighting up my rear brake lights or my marker lights on the side or top of the truck. eventually when i get a different vehicle im wanting to do a frame off restoration as i see none of these trucks being restored around here.
