Title: Bucket Seats
Post by: the dan on November 18, 2007, 06:48:11 PM
So i have an 83 c10 and ive been meaning to get rid of the bench seat, not that i hate it, but i would like some buckets and a center consoul for my stereo. i baight corbeau (spelling) seats at a swap meed because they were 2 new in box seats for $250, and i tryed mounting them up today and hated everything about race seats in a small cab, no leg room, and no adjusting recline, so i wanna know what you guys are doing for buckets, out of what car, and how much you payed

thanks
dan

well, for the BEST fit, you could get a set of factory buckets out of a 73-87 (77-87 for high back buckets but after '84 they are rarer than a sober Lindsay Lohan) and just have them reupholstered.  or just use the tracks and make about anything fit.  or if you are good at fabrication you can make about anything fit.  another set of buckets that look good in our trucks are the 88-94 hi-back buckets.  i plan on running some of those when i redo my interior...good luck...

You can use Suburban buckets (or just the tracks) to put just about any GM seat in there or use the burb seats.  Travis is selling the buckets out of his Blaazer (tracks aren't the same though) to get an idea of price, normally buckets from from $100 to $2500 depending on the shape.  Good ones from a Burb are about the same.

Curious about those 88-94 hi-back buckets... will I need the tracks/frames to mount in older 73-86 trucks? Will they need to be welded or fab-ed in any way?

honestly, i don't really know.  i have never used 'em myself, just seen it done.  i'm sure you could mod the original tracks to fit, but i'm not sure...

I should be dropping my buckets in some time next week.

What Still need to do is tac the brackets together. And then mount to the buckets so everything is centered.

I took some newer Monte C buckets and stripped the bench to the frame and mounted the seats to it, and bolted a console between, I put some angle across to bolt to. Seemed easier than when I used suburban buckets in my last PU, it was a pain to get the front center brackets the right height to level the seats. I like it.

forgot to update, haha, i picked up a set of buckets out of an izuzu trooper, the driver one is fully adjustable, even hight! so i put those in with some covers, and since i am running a square kicker l5 subwoofer, found the box fit perfectly in between the seats and is an awsome center consoul as well ;D ;D

In my 78 I have a set out of a 91 burban.  But my favorites were in my 77.  I had a set of power buckets out of a 78 Grand Prix.  They gave me more leg room than the burban seats do and were a bit more comfortable.

All you guys with buckets, what do you have for a center console? I like having a center seat so I always bite the bullet and buy a new seat but I've got a really nice set of buckets from a brand new car I was thinking about throwing in my latest 4x4 just for now at least unless I find a real good center console or center seat idea....

I didn't have one in my 77 and the 87 had a bench, but my 78 has the 91 burban console.  I like it because the styling matches up with the doors, dash, etc, and also the lock matches the one on the glove box.

Here's the console in the 78 out of the 91 burb  the seats even have the swing down arm rests on both sides

Kenny, that is downright sweet looking!  Curious as to how you mounted the buckets....I know there are several ways, but I never get tired of hearing how people do their mods.  Please share if you can.

Sorry it took so long to reply....  school started back up.

How I mounted the buckets....
I got the seats/console out of a 91 suburban.  The Front part of the floorpan where the front seat bolts go is the same.  The outer/front mounting holes are the same.  The outer, rear mounting holes barely lined up. I kept the inner front bracket from the suburban.  I took a cold chisel and cut out the floor of the burban around the front-inner brackets so I could seperate it at home without damaging the spot-welded bracket.  Got it home and ground the sheetmetal floor off the brackets and painted them.  One difference between a suburban and a pickup is the angle of the rear bolt-holes on the tracks in the seats.  The Pickup seat brackets curve up in the back to match the floorpan, whilst the burban seat tracks curve down.  I had the seats and nothing to loose, so I took the seat tracks off one at a time and put em in a vise and applied a hammer until they went from being curved down to being curved up.  It takes some fitting, but it worked, the rear-outer bolt hole just barely lined up.  then to figure for the inner-front mount, you loosely hang it in the seat where it goes and bolt the seat down using only the outer-front/rear bolts to hold it where it needs to go, the line up the loose inner bracket and lay across the seat (the pressure will hold the bracket still) and drill the new holes through the bracket directly into the floorpan.  There are 3 "feet" on the bracket for bolts so I put one in the middle, and 2 smaller ones in the side "feet".  Then Bolt that down and you can figure out where the hole goes for the inner-rear bolt, pretty easy. then drill it out and install the bolt.   The seats will be tilted forward with the burban tracks, so I made a spacer to go between the seat and the seat track in the front only, to tip the seat back.  Some people told me that's not safe, but I did it in my old truck and I wrecked the heck outa it and the seat never moved, so I think it'll be ok.  The Console fits the truck floorpan cuz its the same from pickup to suburban (at least right there).  I just centered it up and bolted er down.  My truck is a 78 model and it had dimples in the floor that lined up with where I ended up putting the console.  All but one dimple lined up.  So don't go by the dimples (if theyre there) center it up yourself.  Blazer seats might work better though, cuz the burban seats don't have a latch to lean the seatback forward.  they only have the recline adjustment (since nobody exits the back of a burban through the front)  The blazer seats would be a little more convenient, but my burban seats have fold down armrests...lol

DrPepper1010, are you talking about the red(maroon) ones?  If so those are 78 Chevyrado's.
