Parking Cable Removal
« on: October 17, 2009, 08:23:57 PM »
I am trying to remove the parking brake in my 1986 chevy because I want to replace it. I bought a new front line but I can not figure out how to remove the line off of the pedal bracket. How do I remove it?

Someone has to know. Could you move this into the appropriate area if this is the wrong section.

the easiest way is to loosen the 2 nuts in the engine compartment and the 1 inside the cab, then once the cable is loose there is a cap i guess you would call it that is attached to the cable this has to be unclipped then pulled out backwards through the holder

I have the cable cut right after it goes outside the cab. I just can't figure out how to remove the cable off of the pedal bracket. There is this weird clip that has three prongs on it and I don't know how to get it off. Everything is all covered in mud so now its a little rusty which might be making it a problem.

Use a box end wrench that will just slip over the metal piece (I forget what size but I just did this) and apply some pressure and wiggle it and it will release.
This also works on the other end on the backing plate of drum brakes.
