Muncie M20 Shift Linkage
« on: April 15, 2018, 10:24:07 AM »
I am preparing to install a Muncie M20 into my 84 C10.
I pirchased a used M2o setup with Hurst Competition Plus shifter already mounted.
I am confused by the linkage.
Most pics I have seen orient all 3 shift levers upwards.
My setup has the 3/4 and reverse lever pointing up, but the 1/2 lever is pointing down.
I have seen 1 photo like that, but only 1.
Could this be correct, or is the previous owner playing a joke?

Also, my trany's date code does not match what I have seen online.
The # stamped into the case on the passenger side flange just ahead of the tailshaft housing is 7R26.

Maybe this means 1967 October 26 ???
I can find no casting date codes in the prescribed manner inside bisected circles.

So much to learn....

Your tranny has a Hurst Super Shifter. The 3-4 gear linkage in incorrectly installed. The arm should be facing up so that the linkage rod is parallel with the 1-2 gear linkage rod.

That is a pic I found on the web.
Mine has a Hurst Competition Plus shifter.

Regardless of which Hurst shifter you have, the 1-2 & 3-4 arms attached to the side cover face up.

That is what I thought.
Thanks.
I wonder why mine is not correct??
Maybe the previous owner wanted the stick in the forward position when in 4th gear??
