5 to 6 stud axle swap, do they swap out?

The rear ends toast in my k10, I've found a complete diff that was recently rebuilt I was going to overhaul mine but this is cheaper lol, this axle is from a 2wd  so it's 5 stud. has anybody swapped the axles out with their 6 stud axles or vice versa? is it just a straight swap or do I have to change anything else?

That depends on the year of the 2 axles.  They switched to 30 spline in 1988, so you only have 3 years that are the same as 81-87.
With that said, all of your shock mounts won't be the same for 2WD vs 4WD so you would have to remove them from your axle to make the 2WD work.
Also need to know what year you are working on...
