I have a 1987 Chevy r10 long bed with the stock 305 tbi(besides open air filter) and im looking into getting electric exhaust cutouts once i get headers on, wanted to know if anyone has experience with them. installation, reliability, etc. and if any tuning would have to be done for these

Trying to make your tbi 305 sound like it's really a race car?
Really why would you?

Lol i agree, currently saving up for a 350 (because id wanna buy a new long block and build from there). So in the meantime I'm getting upgrades that ill be able to transfer over to the 350. also because even though I'm a teenager id prefer to have my truck loud only when id like to go fast, because the truck is also my daily I don't want to be sitting at a stoplight with a headache.

VZ, you do remember being a teen, right? Vrooooommm!
Still have no idea what they do, best guess is they are electrically operated solenoids that open your exhaust before the muffler.
Can't you just stick your head out the window and yell "BuuuuWwwwwaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!"

Yup, but put some glass packs or cherry bombs if you want that. Open headers sound like bambooshoot

thanks guys. also the electric exhaust cutouts are basically your regular exhaust setup with mufflers and cats but a y pipe is attached to the head pipes and with a flick of a switch that y pipe opens up and gives you a version of a straight pipe with the flexibility to switch back to your regular (legal) exhaust routing.

Dont be a sissy about it man. Just make the exhaust loud permanently. But not open headers/pipes with no mufflers. It will sound like garbage.
The money/time/effort you would spend on electric cutouts would be better spent on a half decent exhaust setup.

I've been debating this very thing for a long time...I say go for it but do the exhaust right and add them to it. I still plan on adding them to mine at some point but they aren't in the budget just yet.

I've used them. They're pretty long lasting (weather proof) and if you can weld they're easy to install. You won't gain any power form them on a 305, and not much on most engines in general.
