Bought a high performance 700R4 about a year ago and just got a chance to install it. I set the TV cable by setting the brass rough adjustment set to take the initial cable slack out. Then I released the cable lock, pushed the inner cable fine adjuster in towards the transmission then went WOT on the gas and the the fine adjuster clicked out. I set the cable lock and noticed that there was slack in the cable at idol so I readjusted the rough adjuster again to take out the slack. Was I supposed to do this last step? The transmission will not shift out of 1st gear either manually or automatically. I can downshift on the column but nothing happens. Reverse and park work fine. Any ideas?

Have you called the supplier, yet? Is it full of fluid? Is first gear a solid engagement?

My first suspicion is a stuck governor or shift valve.

Talked to the builder and he told me that when they rebuild a 700r4 they use a positive pressure TV so the cable is just to fine tine the shift points now. He suggested that I run it without the cable hooked up and if it is working properly it will shift through the gears quickly. I am going to try this weekend and see what happens.

Set it the way you did but do not take out the slack. The cable is too tight
After it self adjusts, leave it alone and see how it works.
