second 88
« on: April 29, 2017, 09:31:26 PM »
Went and picked myself up a 1988 v30 regular cab dually last night it's a 6.2/sm465/slip yoke np205 with 105,000 km (about 65,000 miles) and it rides on a dana 60/70 combo, the frame is rusty and crusty (it was a plow truck for a yard in northern ontario 99% of it's life, bought it from the company that bought it new) the bed rusted off 20+ years ago and was replaced with a home made bed and the front passenger frame rail is hurting pretty bad (probably from the plow) but the cab and fenders seem decent so far and for 600$ everything on top of the axles is gravy. now i have to figure out if this is for parts like i though or if it's worth rebuilding.

With the prices of some of these trucks today you really need to think twice about cutting them up, it's possible that it it's cost effective to put another frame under it with those miles.

I bought a '87 GMC Sierra Classic two tone long bed for parts that I'm really thinking about making it a short bed by swapping frames.

well it's been awhile since i updated about this truck unfortunately it's not good news. The cab and the frame are both far far beyond repairable the cab has holes all over the place (firewall, floor, shelf behind the seat, hood hinge pockets) the front cab mounts are rotten, the frame is beyond any hope of saving and i couldn't get the motor running (got it to fire once off brake cleaner). So given the sever salt and rust damage I've begun disassembly and will be saving everything i can
