Inside hood release was an option and the less common design

I meant the style of the inside hood release. There seems to be two different styles and I was wondering if the year of the truck made a difference on which one they installed.

It didn’t appear that way to me going through the junkyard so I was wondering why there were different latches on the same year trucks?

right but you are comparing inside release vs outside release not two different inside releases

Good Lord!!!!!!  I suppose I will have to wrap my head around those prices at some point.  In the meantime, the hunt continues.

If anyone is looking for a good used 76 GMC grille there is one at the salvage yard I bought my tailgate from.  I can get the phone number to any who is interested.

Here's an NOS grille

https://longisland.craigslist.org/pts/d/gmc-nos-grille-gm/6337236826.html

That's bizarre.  As i observed, most Rolls Royce grills on ebay don't go for even close to that.  And i believe RR grills are made of actual metal, not plastic.  So, something strange is going on.

If an 80 grill will work, then i believe we/you have found two at more reasonable prices.

2) i think if you are good with a router, you could probably make a good "repro" from a chunk of wood?

Supply and demand, nobody wants/needs the Rolls grill, it's almost more of an art piece at this point. There are 100 times more people trying to restore a '70-80's GMC than all the years of Rolls Royces combined. $1250 for a NOS one could be a real number, I could see somebody paying $8-900 for it.
I paid $650 for a mint 'USED" tailgate aluminum panel for my GMC a year ago and I was honestly glad to get it. I paid $150 for a "USED" horn button on that internet auction site that was listed as being "flawless" but wasn't so it was returned. There was a "NOS" one listed for $550. The GMC stuff is tough to find.

Maybe I’ll just get a piece of cardboard and have a grille airbrushed. Do it funny car style!

I found a guy parting out a 79 GMC sort of close to me and I think that the only thing he’s keeping is the grille!  I am finding them here and there so I’m optimistic about it now. Maybe when my work slows down I can do some traveling and hit some salvage yards if I don’t find one before then.

They definitely come up more frequently than the 73-74, 75-76 GMC grilles.

If you want NOS date correct you might want to think about it unless used or aftermarket is ok .

Squares are the latest in the collector eyes.
Already getting stupid prices at auctions.

NADA values have shot up.
Prices on Nos parts is already insane on some things.

I haven’t seen an aftermarket 79/80 Grille that’s totally correct.

All in what your after.

You can see here http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php?topic=7175.465 where I finally found an NOS one that wasn't listed for $1800 bucks and was the chrome one too. If you are patient you may find the deal sooner or later. In the interim I have the original one that came on the truck and about 5 more I've accumulated. The market is high and will only get higher for the NOS stuff, that is until a reproduction levels the field a bit
