Trucks been in the family since 1979
« on: December 03, 2017, 11:56:31 AM »
So after a short summer on the lake figure it's time to do some upgrades. First is get rid of the saddle tanks and install a blazer 31 gallon tank with intank pump for FiTech efi. Next is brakes need upgraded to ebc and new calipers. Also thinking about boxing frame, feels like a semi torquing the frame when taking off towing. I'm only pulling the trailer and boat 50 miles to the lake but hopefully the FiTech will help the BBC get more than 3.5 mpg. Would love to hear comments about my upgrades except buy a new truck cause I'm not spending 60 to 70 grand.

Let us know how the FI works out for you.  I am interested in getting rid of the carb on my truck too.

I personally wouldn't box the frame.
I have a 31 gallon tank in mine but i moved it to put more weight over the tires for traction and because the turbo piping had to go there.  Is there another reason you are doing this?
I would perform a tune up or something on the truck if all you are getting is 3.5mpg.  What kind of truck is it?  Half ton/1 ton?
I had a built 454 in a 1/2 Ton and it got 10mpg all the time.

78 short bed stepside but has 4:56's 3/4 ton running gear nv4500 with 205 tc. 265/75/16 tires empty gets about 11 running 75 but put weight on it and it's thirsty 😎. I was just thinking maybe the FiTech would adjust more on the fly and give a little better milage. Plus I still plan on hauling the 5th wheel back to Colorado to camp with family in the summer months.

4.56 gears and 30"
Tires  even with a the fifth gear in the 4500 is running some high rpm at 75 mph

You need some taller tires

I can step up to a 285/75/16 but got to remember I'm hauling a 5th wheel too. Figured keep the rpms up with a shorter tire and let it work ::)
