Why is this loose?

Whats the trick on getting these stupid mirror cover things snug? Its clean on the inside meaning the tabs aren't rusted off, and the one bottom phillips screw is tight. But just this one side is giving me problems. Why didnt the engineers just use a top screw like the bottom instead of those stupid tabs?!

Run a piece of masking tape across the top of the door so you do not scratch it. Remove the screw on the bottom, pop the cover up and tighten the bolts that secure the arm tension. When reinstalling the cover be sure the two tangs engage the back of the bracket while pulling the bottom over the tang. Make sure it is positioned correctly before reinstalling the screw.

Ok, will try that. The mirror never moves at all, nice and snug. Its just that cover. But i'll adjust those two tangs like you said.
If they were nice and snug at the dealership in 1977, then by-george i'll get'em that way today!

So the covers are just loose? I misread what you were saying. I would inspect the two clips, they're probably bent, out of position or broken.

Yup...a little bent and/or out of pos. And yes, just the cover.

Fixed! All i did was bend the two tabs out a little, now holds nice and snug, like it did back in '77.
