Will a '82 tailgate fit a '76 truck???

I have a 76 C-10 and I need a tailgate.  Found one on craigslist for an 82.  Will it fit?  Is the latch system and mounting the same?

trunions are different, too. good news is the right ones will bolt on. pretty sure the latch will work, but you need to bolt on '82 drop bars.

The tailgate is different but will fit with modification. you will need to change the hinges and some shimming may be required to make the body lines match.

So, if I have my original tailgate from my 76 (damaged), can I use the parts from it to make the 82 fit?

We have a 76 gmc c15 1'2 ton 2wd without a tailgate and have a newer tailgate we'd like to use,It has the guide attached to the latch,  does anyone have a picture of what is needed to convert it?

You say you have a newer tailgate, what year gate is it? You need the trunions and hinges for 81-87 if it is that style gate.

I think late 70's it has the guide as part of the latch.

Sorry can't post pics but did get tailgate to fit except needs to be raised to meet sides,adjusted trunnion as hi as it will go,do we need to re-drill mounting holes?

Not enough info. What did you do, did you replace the hinges and trunions for an 81- up gate? Why can't you post pics?
