Title: Replacement 2 barrel carburetor options???
Post by: Dave W on June 08, 2019, 05:26:21 PM
 :oI have a 78 2wd c10. 305v8 2 barrel rochester.
I bought a refurbished Rochester about a year ago
And always had trouble with the fuel inlet leaking.
I tried the self tapping re-thread fixture.. no luck.
Tried it again with some marine JB weld it is about 90%
Good.
But I know eventually I may need to replace it.
Any other makes in 2 barrel NEW out there, (carter/holley)that will bolt right up?
I know I may possibly have to go to a manual choke with some
Brands.
Under $350 budget
Thanks in advance!!

Sorry i can't help too much at the moment.

i had the exact same problem on a 2G reman.  Most remans are not really that good.   i went to the junkyard to get a factory inlet and problem solved.

If it has to be new, then a holley 2300 may sort of bolt in with an adapter.

Or get a high quality reman from a more reputable rebuilder.

Or get a new intake---then you'll have plenty of new 4bbl carbs to choose from ;D

i'll try to add more later.

P.S.
If it's leaking, DON'T RUN IT.

The other thing you could do is go TBI, but that's going to be more than the $350 budget......

Brand new  Weber 38-DGES would be neat.

Sorry, not trying to blow you off----i'm just busy.

This topic fascinates me---if i didn't overheat my 305, i would still be  running a 2G.

Nice find!

I run a Qjet on a 350, but wonder if this would make a good replacement.

I may call the 'expert' hotline right after I fill my diff with a ziplock  bag full of SAE 90!

So digging a little deeper, they may a direct QJet replacement, however they're for non-emission vehicles.  :(

Any word if SEMA is still working on raising the smog years to 1980?
