Hello all,

I'm confusing about my red 1984 GMC Truck has factory 1/2 Ton short wide bed with my father's blue & grey 1984 GMC 1/2 Ton long wide bed that's different length than my Truck. Are both the same weight?

Is my GMC Truck's chassis heavy thick metal than regular C-10 short wide bed or Silverado short wide bed? OR just the chassis is heavy if with factory GMC?

I looked at my GMC Truck's title said it has factory 3,900 pounds. How can I cut the weight off to make my Truck light weight? I just need to saving more gas on millage......

My Truck has factory height, not a low rider. I don't wanted to make my Truck low rider because of rough roads and streets in Dickinson, Texas where I live at.....

LMK, thanks.

Re: Why is 1/2 Ton SWB different than 1/2 Ton LWB?

SWB - Short Wheel Base and means just that, they are short  117.5" wheelbase
LWB - Long wheel base means Long. so yeah his is going to be longer.  131.5" wheelbase

A long bed is going to be heavier than a comparably equipped short bed.
A LWB is about 4100lbs compared to a SWB's 3900lbs

There is no real good way to cut weight off unless you start replacing everything with fiberglass which just isn't practical.  If you need better MPGs it would be cheaper to buy a 4cylinder car.

Lowering it does nothing for weight.

But as far as trucks go, 3900 is pretty light.  Heck, my grandmother's Crown Vic is heavier than that.  So you can realistically get 22-23 highway mpg with the right engine.  A late model 4.8 or 5.3 engine would be perfect for achieving these high mpgs (they would also shave a little weight thanks to alum heads and plastic manifold).  Or in the spirit of weight savings you could look for an all-aluminum LS1.  If a swap isn't in the plans or budget, consider a TBI conversion, or just keep the current engine in the best tune you can and drive very conservatively (lower your average cruise speed and slow your acceleration).  Lowering the truck may help a little in terms of highway mpg, due to reduced frontal area, but my guess is not by a significant amount.

Thanks guys for LMK. :)

Is my 1984 GMC 1/2 Ton SWB is the same weight as 1984 C-10 regular Chevy SWB without 1/2 Ton?

If not the same weight both of them, how heavy is regular 1984 Chevy C-10 SWB?

I dunno why my Truck has factory 1/2 Ton with factory short wide bed... the regular C-10 short wide bed Truck has factory without 1/2 Ton...... I am SO confusing about long wide bed Truck has 1/2 Ton and the short wide bed has no 1/2 Ton on the regular Trucks BUT mine has factory 1/2 Ton with short wide bed with factory GMC package.

Half Ton with short wide bed???  ??? I'm so confusing.....

By the way, what is "MPG" means? Just curious, thanks.

Some of your questions are getting confusing.

Short beds were ONLY availible in 1/2 ton trucks.

GMC and Chevy are the same exact truck except for the badging.

MPG= Miles Per Gallon

I need some explanation on this, I don't understand what it is you are asking/telling us.

Badging refers to the trim pieces that say "Silverado" or "Sierra" or "C10" or "Chevrolet" or "GMC"
