I don't.  IMO, the only thing that looks "just right" under the hood of an older muscle cars is a big block.

Oh Yeah!

It is with one of these under the hood. My 68 is getting a 396 put in it, but it will be far from stock.

Nobody forget...This topic is about a 292 inline six and how much weez you could possibly get out of one with basic modifications. Big blocks do look good though.

Well, yes.  It's a Chevelle with a bed.  I guess you could call it a muscle truck.  But I never really thought of Elkys as trucks.

I thought this topic was pretty much resoved when you decided on a 350.

True...but I figured I'd continue for anyone else that was dead set on building an awesome 292.

Big V8 diesels used to be pretty popular, and pretty impressive as well. In the last two or three decades, however, the inline six has taken over for class 8 trucks.

Now, I've recently intrigued myself with the idea of dropping a 4.2 Atlas into a C10.

I've considered keeping my 250 I-6 my truck wit a 4bbl carb and some headers came to the conclusion that My money would get me further with a small block. Would be cool thiough to do a 292 if budget wasn't a concern.

ive thought about dropping a 250/292 I6 in a 4x4 daily driver, just for torque.  I cant see anything wrong with it and it would lighten the front of the truck up a little bit.

I have a 250 inline in my 80 2wd swb. It was there when I bought it. I would never do it on purpose. It lacks power for sure, had a 305 in my 82 4x4 lwb and it had gobs more power than the 250. got a little better mpg with the 305 too. same trans/gearing etc.

Seriously. I'm seeing some decent 4.2s on eBay. Can anyone think of a reason not to use one instead of a 5.3 in my '86?
It's got more power and torque than what I currently have, and I'm well pleased  with the one in my Trailblazer. It's towed our ski boat and
my old travel trailer without any trouble at all.

I'll post the rest in my truck's thread, so's not to pirate.

Your only issue with the 4.2 is the oilpan from what I remember.  Otherwise a good motor.

Yeah, it's a bit backwards. The one on my 4x4 TB has the front driveshaft running through the oilpan, but I wonder if maybe it'd work ok
on my 4x2 Chebby without too much trouble.
