I have a 1982 GM 10 bolt 4x4 front axle that I pulled out the driveshafts and replaced the wheel bearings and seals, when I put it back together the locking hubs will not slide in enough that I can get the retaining clip on it. I can't figure out where the problem is. Any ideas?

Not sure if you have auto or manual hubs, or exactly what the problem may be. But I do know of that clip, I always put a slight bend into one end to make it easier the next time I need to take it out. There is full tech info (factory drawings and shop manual R&R) at http://www.bacliffrv.com/Truck .

It has manual locking hubs. Its like both spindles need to be moved inward or both axle shafts need to extend outward and 1/8 to 1/4 inch to expose the grove in the end of the axle shaft that the snap ring fits into.

Push the axle shaft out with a screw driver or pry bar. You get at it by the ball joints.
