86 truck chassie question
« on: November 14, 2002, 10:13:00 AM »
I recently twisted my half ton 4*4 frame in a tire blowout. real bad .I want to start the rebuild instead of buying a new truck. I love this truck. now before I get another frame to start rebuilding, were there any changes between 1975 and 1986? Im worried about cab location mounts steering box position etc.
Can onyone help me
I would love a response Eric in phoenix   thx.............

As far as i know everything is the same. The frames are the same from 73 to 87. Im not sure about the cab mounts on the frame. The part numbers for the cab mounts are different so... What you could do it cut the rivits of and put the cab mounts from the 86 on the 75 frame the bolt holes will line up but just remember to use grade 8 bolts. If you plan on using the 700r4 tranny in the other frame you will have to move the tranny crossmember and maybe the shifter linkage where it bolts to the frame but other than that, everything should be just fine. let me know how things go TJ
