Hello all. This is my first post. I have a 1979 C10 shortbed. My question is I used a step bit to open up a frame hole from 3/4 to 1 inch. Its the tank strap access hole, I opened it to get access to it with a socket. Everything I have read says to not drill near the flange of the frame (top horizontal part). It still has about 11/16 of space between the hole and the flange. Its about an 1/8 inch closer than it was before. Should I put a grade 8 1 inch bolt through it with a plate on the backside with bolts on the corners of the plate for added strength(the tank bracket allows extra bolts through the plate. Or am I being neurotic and seriously overthinking this? Appreciate feedback.

Thanks.

As long as the hole is round and doesn't have any internal gouges or deep nicks in its circumference, it should be fine.

The hole is a little rough from the step bit but it does not appear to have gouges or deep scratches. Thanks for the reply.

11/16" away from the radius of the flange is ample spacing and should be of no concern.

How to upload pics to the forum from your PC

You may need to resize the file in MS Paint or something similar.

...It's about an 1/8 inch closer than it was before....

It's insignificant.  You can take your attention off of it.
