Title: Rochester Carburetor rebuild shops

I am looking to have my carb rebuilt by someone reputable.  Can anyone recommend a reliable shop?  I want this done right.

I am aware of replacement carbs but with my truck I want to stay original.  In its day I could get 15 mpg on my 454 plus I have to pass an emission test.

I looked all around my area, and had a hard time finding someone I felt good about.  I did find a few older shops, but I didn't feel comfortable that I would get what "I" wanted/needed.  I HATE carb tuning and really wanted a QJ that would WORK for my application right out of the box (with minimal fine tuning).  Every time I went back to the internet for more ideas, I always ended up with SMI in Cali.  Yea it took a little time to get, but VERY worth the wait.  I'm totally happy.  My combo was a mild built SB400, and he/SMI/Sean recommended the 36002 for my application.  I had 8 different QJ's to choose from to rebuild, but none were a good fit for my application/motor combo so I bought one from them.

Original plan was to stay "stock" looking, but that didn't last long.

SMI get's my vote.

As 74 k20 pointed out, when I hear the word Quadrajet, I think Sean Murphy Induction (SMI).
I've never personally used his services, buy many of the GM cars that I have read about in Car Craft & Hot Rod magazine over the years had SMI quadrajets on them.

12 month backlog means he is good but I need it back sooner than that

I read something about epoxying something.  I also still have the plugs so you can't adjust the air/fuel mixture...  I rebuilt one 20+ years ago.  I just want it perfect and my original back.

The well plugs.  If there is nothing wrong with them they shouldn't need touching.  As long as the throttle shaft isn't loose it is pretty simple.  Otherwise you have to rebushing the throttle shaft.
